New for June
This month has something of a transatlantic flavour. Judy Davies has sent in some articles and poems written by Milton Crum, you can find the articles in the ‘Study and Policy’ section, and the poems in the Resources area of Clinical Practice. There’s also an interesting new book out on Dream Therapy, which you can find details in the Book and Journal Reviews area of Study and Policy. As always, we would always welcome recommendations, especially if they come with a review.
Closer to home, Michael Reeder has sent some photos of the recently-refurbished Chapel at St Luke’s Sheffield. These are in a new Sacred Space photo-area in the Clinical Practice section. It’s interesting and helpful to see what other hospice chapels look like, so photos from elsewhere would be very welcome.
Membership renewals
At the AGM we agreed to manage our own admin arrangements for the time being. Most members have now renewed their subscriptions for 2013. If you haven’t done so yet, or you want to apply for membership, please download an application form and send it with the £30 subscription to Caroline McAfee, our treasurer (the revised form includes her work address).
We hope eventually to set up on-line payment, but please don’t wait for that! Please note that to simplify matters, payment is currently by cheque only. Please keep a copy of the form (or use the acknowledgement) if you are able to make a claim for the subscription.
Members’ Forum
This is members-only and needs a password. Since the AGM, new, simpler passwords have now gone out to every current member, and are now all activated. Please contact me if you have any related problems, or if you have renewed your membership and haven’t received an email containing your new password. If you haven’t yet renewed your membership, your old password will remain live until the end of June.
AHPCC Annual Conference 2013
And finally, just a reminder that the 2013 Conference material is available on this website, and that you can find this and previous annual conference material in the Study and Policy section.
Research Request
Jackie Thomas is partway through her PhD and has posted a request for help with a Profile Survey in the Forum. This will close on June 30th. 93 members have replied (about 2/3 of us), which is really encouraging, but if you haven’t and would be wiling to help, she would be very grateful if you looked at it on the Forum before then.

Here, you will find information about the AHPCC – who we are, what we do, our history, and information about our regional groups and their activities. This section is still developing.
Every month, we highlight media items that may be of interest. There is also a message board to allow the sharing of ideas. This section is due for further development.
The emphasis here is on sharing practical ideas and resources – everything from assessment tools and care plans, to prayers and poetry.
This contains more academic items – book reviews, journal articles, and links to publications from related organisations. You will also find handouts and notes from previous AHPCC Conferences.
This contains professional standards, competencies, guidelines, code of conduct, and also current vacancies. For prospective employers, there are sample person specs, job descriptions and pay scale guidance to assist in recruitment, and also a vacancies section where posts can be advertised.
Here, you can find details of coming training events and courses relevant to spiritual palliative care. You will also find up-to-date information about the AHPCC’s popular Annual Conference here.
If you need to contact the AHPCC, would like to join, or need to renew your membership, you can find contact details and a booking form here. You will also find links to other chaplaincy and relevant organisations, including the UK Board for Healthcare Chaplaincy.
